Description

The 30th Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk, and Kid’s Fun Runs, as well as a virtual race component.  The 5K course winds through the beautiful Lakelands and Kentlands neighborhoods before heading down Main Street to the finish line. Every 5K registration comes with a Dri-Fit crew neck race shirt (men's, women's, and kid's sizes available). Enjoy our post-race Merchant's Expo area while meeting with your friends and family!

Live entertainment on the course - local bands set up along the course to delight participants and spectators alike, making what is already a spirited and fun event even livelier! The event finishes with the awards ceremony, team awards (lots of family options), and raffle items donated by local merchants. Cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers.

Kids run includes two distances - 200 and 500 meters! Cotton t-shirt, designed by a local child resident, with each Fun Run registration and a Kids area for a fun time after their event.

Please support our charities by signing up and donating if you can. Our charities include the City of Gaithersburg Dolores Swoyer Camp Scholarship Fund, The Dwelling Place, Mercy Health Clinic, Maryland Senior Olympics, Kentlands Community Foundation, and a scholarship fund for art classes at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn.

Beneficiaries

Last year, the Foundation was able to keep its promises to the beneficiary organizations. With a much smaller race, the Foundation donated $5,000 to the City of Gaithersburg's Dolores C. Swoyer Camp Scholarship Fund, which provides registration fees for underprivileged youth to attend summer camp. An additional, $500 was donated to the City’s non-profit organization, G-PARC, for scholarships to City art camps. Camp scholarship funds provide a summer of learning and activities for children who are unable, without assistance, to meet the financial requirements of summer camp.

The second beneficiary of the race was The Dwelling Place, Inc., a non-profit based in Gaithersburg, which supports homeless families in Montgomery County, MD, in their pursuit of self-sufficiency by providing housing, education, financial and life skills, and career enhancement. The Foundation donated $4,000 to The Dwelling Place last year.

Mercy Health Clinic, a free clinic serving the uninsured and underinsured in Montgomery County, received a $2,000 donation.

Lastly, the Foundation donated $1,000 to the Maryland Senior Olympics, a non-profit that helps support the health of Maryland seniors.

The Kentlands Community Foundation is also a beneficiary. The community-based, not-for-profit and philanthropic organization rooted in Kentlands has a three-fold mission: to serve as an educational resource on the landmark new urbanist community that is Kentlands, to build community by supporting local arts and cultural programs, and to provide opportunities for volunteerism and community outreach. All programs are open to everyone, regardless of residency, and volunteers are always welcome.
